Air pollution in relation to the development of the urban transport system in the major cities of the world is very often observed in some cities of Africa. This theoretical study aims to surround the reality of air pollution linked to the transport sector in the largest city of Burkina Faso (Ouagadougou) in West Africa. Research shows that the air is increasingly polluted in Ouagadougou, the capital city of Burkina Faso. This air pollution is mainly linked to the road transport sector. The strong urban growth, the horizontal spatial sprawl of the city and the shortcomings of the transport system are the main explanatory factors of this phenomenon in Ouagadougou.
