Abstract

The conference first presents the most striking ecological features of the West African savannahs, then specifies the use that the inhabitants of these regions have of these environments. It then presents the main features of the representations that the inhabitants of these regions have of their environment. This way of thinking is illustrated by examples borrowed from the Bwaba and the Sèmè, two societies of farmers in Burkina Faso: worship of the Do and human procreation through the intermediary of the genies of the territory.
