The need for safety, convenience and economy will guide the planning of a modern operation theatre complex, whatever the size, number or the specialty. Guidelines based on current and widely accepted recommendations as also ones for possible expansion of the operation theatre complex are dealt with in this article.Item A Brief Propensity Index for Conduct Disorder (BPI-CD): Development, Validity and Reliability(2020-04-14) Oguntayo, Rotimi; Olaseni, Abayomi, Oladele; Miracle, Kehinde; Helen, Osinowo; Isaac, Yakubu, IsaaConduct Disorder (CD) can pose serious concerns to parents, home and the society, meanwhile assessing this construct in clinical practice has been based on western concepts which limited the cultural factors implicated in CD. This study presents a reliable and valid screening tools for conduct disorder among juveniles and general population respectively. Existing scales that assessed deviant behavior or CD were reviewed. A qualitative study was conducted using juveniles and college students between the age 10 to 19; this is to determine salient constructs related to CD. Themes were generated, and those related to specific predictors of CD were used to generate a 17-item of Brief Propensity Index for Conduct Disorder (BPI-CD). A cross-sectional survey was then conducted among 125 juveniles and college students to assess the reliability and validity of the scale. The participants were purposively selected. Construct validity using exploratory factor analysis was factored and Varimax rotated the scale into six components (KMO = .685, df=171, p<.001). Convergent validity results showed a significant relationship between BPI-CD and Youth Deviant Behavior Variety Scale (r=.338, p<.01), while discriminant validity results revealed a non-significant relationship between (BPI-CD) and Social Skills Scale (r=.101, p>.05), thus showing a strong validity. The reliability dimensions and subscales have meritorious reliability (Aggression to People/Animals, α =.76, Serious Violation of rule and destruction of property, α =.73; Deceitfulness and theft, α =.68). The overall Cronbach’s Alpha was 0.86. BPI-CD is therefore recommended as reliable and valid screening tool for conduct disorder tendency.Item A Case Study of Multiple Sclerosis (MS)(2022-01-02) Mohamed, WaelThis is a CASE STUDY OF MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS (MS) is designed to be a PBL for teaching for Medical students.Item A characterization of minimal ascreen null hypersurfaces of $(LCS)$-space forms(2019-02-25) Ssekajja, SamuelIn the present paper, we study non totally geodesic minimal ascreen null hypersurface, M, of a Lorentzian concircular structure (LCS)-space form of constant curvature 0 or 1. We prove that; if the Ricci tensor of M is parallel with respect to any leaf of its screen distribution, then M is isometric to a product of a null curve and spheres.Item A Child with Fits: A Case Report for PBL(2021-12-29) Mohamed, WaelThis is a case report for a child with seizures. It is presented as a PBL for teaching purposes in Medical School for Undergraduate Medical StudentsItem A comparative analysis of strengths and weaknesses of corporate governance practices between two jurisdictions; UK and South Africa(2021-05-28) Costa, King; Ngcetane-Vika, ThelelaThis paper is an exploration of theoretical aspects underpinning the practice of Corporate Governance (CG) in the United Kingdom and South Africa. Because of several corporate scandals and failures in the twenty and twenty first siècles, Corporate Governance has been a significant and crucial subject and field of study in business schools in recent years. Leadership and Management of business entities and alignment to prescripts that are statutory formulated for prevention of corporate decline and enhancement of sound business principles continue to be highly contentious issues. A theoretical and exploratory narrative synthesis was conducted to unearth the strengths and weaknesses of contextual explication, practice and legal application of Corporate Governance in both the United Kingdom and South Africa. In terms of the UK, the study found out that the CG is designed and benchmarked on international best practice, seamlessly fitting within all the Codes on Key Aspects of Corporate Governance. Secondly, another major element of strengths determination were found to be inherent in the practice of voluntary compliance. However, the greatest criticisms of Corporate Governance theories in the UK was the fact that their focus is largely on public corporations, especially those listed in London stock exchange and thus, leave behind small and medium enterprises. The cultural diversity is also found to be a cause for concern in terms of practice and legal application. On the other hand, in South Africa, the study found out that consideration for diversity is one of the greatest strengths in CG practice and legal application, which is likely to contribute effectively to good and sound decision-making, reflective of all people. Weaknesses continue to be the delay in realisation of board equity in terms of gender while on the other hand, corruption and lack of adherence to retributive prescripts remain problematic.Item A Consequential Approach to Incorporating Spiritual Intelligence in the Workplace.(2021-11-17) Moleka, Pitshou, BasikabioUnderstanding the connection between spirituality and the workplace can be done in two ways. In this piece, I examine some of the benefits of adding spiritual intelligence into the workplace, including job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and corporate citizenship behaviors. The more organizations that embrace spirituality, both collectively and individually, the more benefits they will enjoy.Item A Giant Spontaneous Sub-Capsular Hematoma Of The Liver Revealing A Covid-19 Infection, A Coincidence? A Case Report(2021-01-18) Tidjane, Anisse; Laredj, Amel; Boudjenan-Serradj, Nabil; Bensafir, Salim; Tabeti, BenaliHemorrhagic manifestations during COVID-19 infections are increasingly described in the literature. We report the first case of spontaneous subcapsular hematoma of the liver revealing a COVID-19 infection in a 44-year-old woman with no underlying health condition history, a computerized tomography evaluation showed an aspect of lung ground-glass opacities, with moderate impairment estimated about 20%. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction confirmed the diagnosis of COVID-19 infection. During the COVID-19 pandemic, non-traumatic bleeding such as spontaneous hematomas in patients with no coagulation disorder could be a manifestation of COVID-19 infection.Item A graphical representation for the Integration of the C.O.S.T.A. Research Framework in teaching of Thematic Analysis for Postgraduate Students(2020-07-20) Costa, KingConducting Qualitative Data analysis is the most complex activity researchers are often confronted with. This is coupled with the fact that researchers are required to demonstrate each step taken in analyzing data and drawing conclusions. Ability to demonstrate methods enhances study credibility and believability of conclusions. This poster is a graphical representation of the content of a study by the author entitled, "Integrating the C.O.S.T.A. Research Framework in Teaching of Thematic Analysis for Postgraduate Students."Item A Growing Smile and a growing demise: the diminishing value of Damietta furniture making(2022-11-27) Hamoud, Maher; Diab, OsamaUsing the Growing Smile framework, we argue in this article that the struggles of manufacturers in the Egyptian furniture industry is part of a historical and structural process characterized by a drop in value added by the manufacturing processes, giving way to higher value added by the pre- and post-manufacturing processes. We found that manufacturers surviving this trend are the ones who can integrate advanced design and marketing techniques in their processes, and in some cases outsource the manufacturing process altogether, while focusing instead on design and marketing. These are large players who increasingly operate and employ workers from Egypt's large metropolises, namely Cairo. This causes the redistribution of value to Cairo-based business and professions at the expense of the provincial city of Damietta. Internationally, with increased automation, more of the value is captured by the manufacturers of IP-heavy machines at the expense of traditional craftsmen. These trends have serious repercussions on an increasingly industrialising Global South, prominently among which is a rapidly falling employment-to-population ratio.Item A local structure of null hypersurfaces of $\mathbb{R}_{1}^{n+1}$(2019-02-25) Ssekajja, SamuelIn the present paper, we characterize constant mean curvature and scalar curvature null hypersurfaces of $\mathbb{R}_{1}^{n+1}$. Locally, such hypersurfaces are a product of a null curve and generalized cylinders.Item A lower bound for length of addition chains(2022-08-03) Agama, TheophilusIn this paper we show that the shortest length (n) of addition chains producing numbers... #find the attached document for the full abstractItem A Mathematical Model for Identifying Truth in Observations Made within Individual Human Self-Awareness(2020-04-27) Williams, AndyA large body of work purports to identify the functions of the human system through observations that can be validated within human self-awareness. That is, using observations that can be made in the human self-awareness to validate what in this paper are called human-centric models of the functionality of the human system, or human-centric functional models. This body of work, accumulated over thousands of years, has been largely inaccessible to the scientific study of consciousness and other functions because it's written in terms that require a very different training, which is training in observing one's self-awareness. Making scientific or mathematical use of observations made within human self-awareness is a challenge. What can be observed to be true in one's self-awareness, and what can be proved true mathematically, have so far been two different things. Representing an experiment as a channel through which information representing truth can be transmitted, this paper explores the use of Information Theory to gauge the capacity of an experiment in self-awareness to identify a truth, such as determining the validity of any given function defined by a functional model for consciousness. In providing this mechanism to prove that an awareness exists and that it reflects truth, this paper attempts to make the entire set of observations made using human self-awareness accessible to mathematicians and scientists.Item A Model for Artificial General Intelligence(2020-04-17) Williams, AndyA Functional Modeling Framework (FMF) for defining and comparing models of consciousness and cognition has recently been developed. This framework proposes to have the capacity to represent the complete set of the functionality of human consciousness and cognition, which if true, would suggest that all models of consciousness and cognition can be represented within the framework. The framework also proposes to define the criteria for a model of cognition to have the potential for the general problem solving ability commonly recognized as true human intelligence. The FMF provides a single framework for defining models of consciousness and cognition that is human-centric in that the functions can be validated through experiments that can be performed within innate human self-awareness rather than being dependent on assumptions made by any specific model. This human-centric functional modeling approach is intended to enable different models of AGI to be more easily compared so research can reliably converge on a single understanding, enabling the possibility of massively collaborative interdisciplinary projects to research, and implement models of consciousness or cognition where such massive collaboration has not proved possible before. The FMF defines requirements for all the functional components defined by the framework, but leaves specific models to define their own implementations. This paper summarizes a model of cognition developed within this framework that is proposed to meet the criteria of an AGI as defined within this framework. This description is expanded in a number of other papers.Item A Model for General Collective Intelligence(2020-04-30) Williams, AndyA General Collective Intelligence or GCI is a hypothetical platform that combines groups into a virtual collective cognition with a single well-defined thread of collective reasoning. While groups might have some innate general problem-solving ability described by a general collective intelligence factor (c), any collective intelligence software platform or methodology used as a decision-making tool by groups to increase problem-solving ability has narrow problem-solving ability where it is not able to address any problem in general. As opposed to such collective intelligence methodologies or software platforms, GCI has the potential to combine individual cognition into a single virtual collective cognition with general problem-solving ability, and also creates the potential to exponentially increase this general problem-solving ability.Item A practical representation of NFT pedagogy in a learning environment(2020-07-03) Thusi, Nisi; Costa, KingAdvanced pedagogy is the way to enhance teaching and learning performance for non-financial students. There are different methods in use across the globe for innovative teaching of higher learning students. The use of multimedia and technology empowers educational processes by increasing interaction between teachers and students. Hybrid teaching and blended learning follow an integrated approach to teaching that blends with students' interests and teacher's personality that needs curriculum-appropriate methods. Teachers should thus apply themselves to utilizing innovative methods so that the students’ learning process is as free-flowing and that the methodology used creates an atmosphere adaptable to conducive learning environment. The application of innovative teaching and learning methods is critical if we are to motivate and enculturate a spirit of learning and cooperation by encouraging others and doing your share on the part of students. The role of education is to ensure that while academic personal are involve in active teaching, an effort is made to ensure alignment between what is taught and what is comprehensible in relation to students. The goal of this study is an ongoing and progressive examine of how Edger Dale's Cone of Experience and Bloom's taxonomy is employed to positively influence student learning. In this conceptual research the methodology used was hinged on analytic processes for material already published in this area. Key variables under investigation forecast on integration of Dales and Blooms theories for theoretical perspectives with the researchers pedagogy known as the NFT.Item A Pragmatic Inquiry into Employee's Lived Experiences in relation to COVID-19 Lockdown in South Africa(2020-05-22) Costa, King; Tumagole, BenevolentThe outbreak of COVID-19 in South Africa has brought about many socio-economic challenges, affecting everyone in all sectors of society. As the government proactively introduced steps to deal with the progression of the COVID-19 in South Africa, some of these measures included a total country lock-down, introduced on the 26th of March 2020. One of the most severely impacted sectors of society was employees from different organizations. Such impacts included confusion, fear of contracting the virus, and mixed emotions in relation to their income including survival of their organizations during the lockdown. This study used a mixed-methods approach to understand employees’ experiences during the period of lockdown in South Africa. The study design used a pragmatic approach, employing an explorative inductive sequential logical approach whereby phenomenology was used as a method of inquiry, followed by survey research which was constructed out of data from the qualitative dimension of the study. Findings from the qualitative study were triangulated with findings from the quantitative dimension. Results from both dimensions seemed very plausibly similar, indicating the need for attention of employee’s mental health emanating from COVID-19 phenomena and subsequent lockdown in South Africa. Provision of safe working environments, the establishment of peer educators, strengthening of Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) services, and corporate health initiatives by employers were recommended as proactive initiatives to assist and enhance the wellbeing of employees during and post COVID-19.Item A pre-Tranind Model for Driver Drowsiness Detection(2023-06-22) Ahmed, AmiraDrowsiness is among the important factors that cause traffic accidents; therefore, a monitoring system is necessary to detect the state of a driver’s drowsiness. Driver monitoring systems usually detect three types of information: biometric information, vehicle behavior, and the driver’s graphic information. Drowsiness detection methods based on the three types of information are discussed. A prospect for arousal level detection and estimation technology for autonomous driving is also presented. The technology will not be used to detect and estimate wakefulness for accident prevention; rather, it can be used to ensure that the driver has enough sleep to arrive comfortably at the destination. In this paper, we propose a Resnet (50) pre-trained model for driver drowsiness detection that achieves robust results and reaches 98% accuracy.Item A production-based model for a fractured well in unconventional reservoirs(2020-08-25) Mohammed, Shaibu; Anumah, Prosper; Sarkodie-kyeremeh, Justice; Acheaw, EmmanuelDue to the depletion of conventional reservoirs and the high demand of energy, unconventional reservoirs will be relied on to supply the world’s energy for the foreseeable future. Unfortunately, modelling and analysis of these reservoirs have been very challenging because of their complex storage and flow mechanisms. Although analytical, semi-analytical and numerical models have been proposed, these models rely on simplifying assumptions and require several input parameters. In this paper, a production-based model is proposed to analyze and predict a fractured-well performance in unconventional reservoirs. The model assumes a power law with a stretched exponential cut-off. While the power-law term governs the transient-state period, the stretched exponential term, which is a superposition of exponential decays, governs the boundary-dominated flow period. As a result, the model is capable of matching both the transient state and boundary-dominated flow portions of the data. The model has been validated with a numerical data and applied to several field data; in addition, the model has been used to estimate P10, P50 and P90 values, as well as to develop P10, P50 and P90 type curves for the Barnett shale. These type curves will be useful for production forecasting of new wells in the field or analogue fields. Results of the model have been compared with existing models. The findings show that the proposed model yields relatively good reserve estimates, and predicts the future production performance of unconventional reservoirs not only during the transient-state period, but also the boundary-dominated flow period. The proposed model may contribute to the ongoing efforts to improve the analysis and forecasting of fractured-well performance in unconventional reservoirs.Item A progress on the binary Goldbach conjecture(2022-06-08) Agama, TheophilusIn this paper, we develop the method of circle of partitions and associated statistics. As an application, we prove conditionally the binary Goldbach conjecture. We develop series of steps to prove the binary Gold-bach conjecture in full. We end the paper by proving the binary Goldbach conjecture for all even numbers exploiting the strategies outlined.
