Abstract
Under the guise of slavery, colonisation and the many invasions to which Africa and its people have fallen victim, certain peoples and certain parts of this vast territory have been given names that have nothing to do with their identities, their traditions and their history. Today, these names are being called into question, and rightly so. All the more so when you consider the importance of names in Africa. The territory we now call Cameroon is no exception in this respect. In this monograph, we look at the different names that this territory in Central Africa has borne. In the first part, we focus on the territory's anteriority. In the second part, we question the current name, clearly casting doubt on its origin and the very existence of its presumed author. In the third part, we propose a much more plausible line of thought on the local origin of this name.
